The Murmur of Bees by Sofia Segovia is inspired by a true story.
Nana Reja who has been a nursemaid for the Morales family, finds a baby swaddled in bees. Simonopio is not only abandoned but he has a disfiguration which makes it difficult for him to drink. He is welcomed by some but others are superstitious and consider him to be from the devil. Fortunately, the Morales family welcome him, find a way to feed him and see his gifts and companionship with bees as a blessing. The story is set in Mexico during the Mexican revolution and the influenza pandemic of the early 1900s.
