Mightier than the Sword by Jeffrey Archer

This novel was one of the books I bought recently at the Friends of the Library book sale and I didn't realize that Mightier than the Sword by Jeffrey Archer was book five of the Clifton Chronicles, but regardless, Mr. Archer was very adept at bringing the reader up to date on the story and character backstory. Beginning in 1964 the tumultuous times of the cold war with Russia and the Irish Republican Army bombings in England adds to the suspense and tension in the book.

From the cover:
Bestselling novelist Harry Clifton's on a mission to free a fellow author who's imprisoned in Siberia - even if doing so puts Harry's own life, and life's work, in danger. Meanwhile, his wife Emma, chairman of the Barrington Shipping Company, is facing repercussions of an IRA bombing on the MV Buckingham. Harry ad Emma's son, Sebastian, is quickly making a name for himself at Farthings Bank but Adrian Sloane (Harry's boss) is only interested in Sebastian's ruin.
