Suzanne Collins' Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel to the Hunger Games series and is just as exciting and page turning as the other novels. The book gives the reader a view of Coriolanus Snow's life before he became a President and instrumental in the hunger games tragic annual event. Before his advancement in the Capitol, his family had fallen on hard times and he was among the first university students chosen to mentor one of the tributes for the games. While his tribute is fighting for her life, he is fighting to hold on to some of the status his family had enjoyed - he lived with his grandmother and cousin in a penthouse suite in the capitol. His fate is entwined with that of his tribute and without winning, he is likely to lose both his family home and a coveted university scholarship.
It appears that there is a movie in the works for the prequel, but as with most books that are made into movies it's difficult to capture the author's imagination on screen.
