The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham is set in the 1950s dusty Australian fictional town of Dungatar. Tilly returns to look after her feeble mother after being shunned as a child resulting from the death of a boy which she is blamed for. Tilly arrives armed with a sewing machine and quickly starts making couture fashion which she learned in Paris and Europe. The drama was made into a movie starring Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth. While most of the dialog remains the same in both the book and movie, several characters are not featured in the movie and is more about love and revenge.
