The Australian novel, Railwayman's Wife by
Ashley Hay, is set in the beautiful coastal town of
Thirroul, New South Wales shortly after WWII ends. It is the story of the struggles of Anikka Lachlan who is far from her family and mourning the death of her Scottish husband. She takes a job at a local library and carves out a new life for herself and her daughter as they both come to terms with their family loss. Crossing her path are two men who have returned from the war with their own struggles - childhood friends - a poet and a doctor. Each is working toward acceptance and connection.
