Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty

Apples Never Fall is a story about the Delaney family with all their idiosyncrasies, their love or hate of tennis (the family's business) and their relationships both within the family and without. Thrown into the mix is a stranger who knocks on the door late at night and tells Joy that her boyfriend had abused her and she had nowhere to go. Joy, thinking the woman was someone she should have known but couldn't remember if it was a friend of one of her four children, takes her in, much to her husband, Stan's distrust of the woman. The children have been used to their father leaving for days at a time when tempers flared but one day it was their mother who disappeared and the suspicion was that their father was responsible.

Liane Moriarty weaves a family story - set in Australia - of the struggles each of them has, trying to fit in but also trying to forgive many hurts. It's a novel that's hard to put down as it draws the reader in and adds mystery along the way.
