The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz

In The Plot, Jean Hanff Korelitz weaves a story around Crib (with excerpts from the story), a novel written by the main character Jacob Finch Bonner, and how he came to write the best selling novel.

Although he didn't plagiarize the story partially told to him by a student, Evan Parker, Jake Bonner, nevertheless, got the gist of Evan's plot and used it to write his own novel. Thinking Evan was no longer writing, Jake was surprised to receive threatening messages through Twitter and social media. Signed only as Talented Tom the threats were to expose Jake for stealing the plot.

The story begins a little slow and without much fanfare, but is gradually built upon as Jake tries to find out who is threatening him. Thinking it may have been a friend Evan had confided his story in or a relative, Jake begins researching his prior student's life and comes across a lot more than he bargained for. In the meantime, his world is brightened by the unexpected meeting with Anna, a program director at a local Seattle radio station where he is interviewed.

There are lots of twists and unexpected turns in the story.
