The setting for Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez isn't specifically mentioned, but it is speculated that the Caribbean coast in Columbia may have been the inspiration.
As the title suggests, Love is the theme throughout the book, mainly the love Florentino Ariza has for Fermina Daza which at first, although forbidden, seems to be reciprocal until Fermina Daza has a quick change of heart. Although going in different directions each has relationships which can be described as different types of love. Florentino Ariza does not, however, give up hope even if it means waiting for the death of Fermina's husband.
