Pompeii

PompeiiPompeii with Kiefer Sutherland and Kit Harrington wasn't what I expected.

Unfortunately, Pompeii was just another gladiator movie with an earthquake, volcanic eruption and tidal wave thrown in. Kiefer Sutherland was unbelievable as Roman Senator Corvus. Sasha Roiz might have been a better choice for the major role. However, the special effects were amazing and the fight scenes well choreographed.

Apart from the aerial views, most of the film was made on sets in Toronto.

The Italian town in the Bay of Naples was covered in ash after Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. It appeared to happen quickly and without warning. Coroners speculate that the residents of Pompeii were probably overcome by poisonous gases before they could attempt to leave the city. Over a thousand years later families were discovered under the ash in the midst of their daily tasks. The town was mostly intact, preserved by the volcanic ash. Historians have long discovered about Italian life from the archaeological digs in historic Pompeii.
