The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall is an inspirational book that puts perspective on the important things in life. Jim Stovall has touched many with his Narrative Television Network, originally set up to reach the visually impaired, and through his many speaking engagements.
It follows Jason Stevens who is a beneficiary of his great uncle's will, but with stipulations. Each month Jason (a spoiled trust fund kid) has to follow Red Stevens' instructions as shown on a video he recorded before his death. For a year Jason has the choice of following those instruction or forfeiting The Ultimate Gift. The first is work . . .
These are all "gifts" that each of us should treasure. Even problems are viewed as a gift:
"Problems can only be avoided by exercising good judgment. Good judgment can only be gained by experiencing life's problems."
Following the success of the book, a movie staring Abigail Breslin was produced. While the movie doesn't exactly follow the story of the book, both have a worthwhile message and a great way to start the new year.
The book was received as part of a giveaway from Mason over at Thoughts in Progress. Hop on over and take a look, she always has a lot of interesting book reviews on her site.
