A friend gave me some chestnuts yesterday. Roasting them on an open fire was a tradition in England at Christmas, but I haven't eaten these in years. I don't have a fireplace so had to search for how to cook them. Thank goodness for You Tube.
Chestnuts, which are from the sweet chestnut tree, look similar to the nuts from the horse chestnut tree used in the game conkers. The fruit of the horse chestnut tree can be poisonous though.
Conkers was a popular game in England when I was growing up. You can read how to play here.
