From the cover:
Smoke jumpers Ed Tully and Connor Ford are best friends, long linked by their passion for high-risk wilderness fire fighting. Now they share another dangerous passion: Both men love the same woman. An epic tale of desire, loyalty and adventure.
I first came across Nicholas Evans' work when I saw The Horse Whisperer. While the Smoke Jumper story was good, it could have been separated into more than one novel. The beginning follows a young girl called Skye, and if you didn't read the blurb on the cover, it would seem that it is her story, but she's only part of it. I was disappointed that the Smoke Jumper veered off to Ed and Julia and later bringing in Connor without developing Sky's story more as I felt she was the more interesting character. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for a story that skipped around continents - as with most reads, it's all about timing.
