Last week-end we visited Natchitoches (pronounced Nack-A-Tish) which is the oldest permanent settlement in Louisiana and established in 1714. At one stall we met two woodcarvers Dan Mallette and Billy Phillips, who had been one of Dan's top students, and they showed us beautiful wood carvings. Dan, in 1989, was recognized as the best woodcarver in the world and received second place in 1992.
