The Greater Journey - Americans in Paris by David McCullough

The Greater Journey - Americans in Paris by David McCullough gives us a glimpse into the journey of adventurous Americans who descended upon Paris. While many in Europe were emigrating to the U.S. in the 19th Century, doctors, writers, artists, politicians and architects headed in the other direction. Some enrolled in the Sorbonne. Others wrote and painted. F.B. Morse returned to America with an idea for the telegraph. Medical student Oliver Wendell Homes was excited to be in the medical capital of the world. Writers Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mark Twain and Henry James were all discovering Paris and marveling at the treasures in the Louvre. They were all on an adventure after taking the treacherous journey across the ocean.
