Rise and Shine

After wading through 900 plus pages of Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, I was looking for something light and sunny when I came across Rise and Shine by Anna Quindlen.  This is a story of two sisters. One is married, in the public eye and mixes with local celebrities and socialites. The other is single and works at a women's shelter in the Bronx. Despite their differences, their lives overlap. Anna Quindlen does a great job at exploring the complexities of relationships within the family.

Hi Ann - Thanks for the recommendation! Did you like Pillars at all? I skipped small portions of the book, but was overall wrapped up into the plot so I read it fairly quickly. William Hamleigh still gives me the "heebie geebies" when I think about the character. I would have to add him to the Top 5 worst villains list!

I agree with you about William Hamleigh Claire. I did enjoy the historical aspect of Pillars of the Earth but by the end I was skipping some. I don't do well with epic novels.
