Dewey by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter

Dewey - The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron combines the life of a library cat, memoirs of Vicki Myron and a look into the struggles in small town Iowa.

Dewey arrived one snowy day in 1988 and was found huddled in the library book depository in Spencer. Dewey was no ordinary cat and seemed to know when to make himself available to library patrons for stroking or sitting on their laps and when to stay away. He delighted children and adults alike and with a common goal of caring for the homeless cat, Dewey brought people together.

Vicki Myron had struggles of her own and in a town that had survived a main street fire (most of main street was rebuilt), the depression of the 1930s and the bankruptcy of many family farms in the 1950s and 60s she too had survived many personal mountains.

The book was recommended to me by our local librarian and it didn't disappoint. I'm adding it to my favorite reads for 2016.
