Live at the Met - Les Troyens

Live at the Met is a series of operas presented at local theaters live. Last month I went with a group of friends to see Hector Berlioz's Les Troyens at The Rave Theater in Fort Worth. This was a long opera (over 5 hours) and really consisted of two operas in one. The first part was when the Trojans were duped by the large wooden horse, which they thought was a peace offering from the Greeks, but instead concealed an army of soldiers. The second part of the opera was when a Trojan, Aeneas, escapes from the Greek invasion and takes his army toward Italy, but instead ends up in Carthage where he falls in love with Queen Dido.

Les Troyens has an amazing cast including Bryan Hymel who is fairly new to the opera scene.
The New York Times has hailed Bryan Hymel’s “impassioned and confident performance”


One of the advantages to watching Live at the Met, along with the subtitles,  is the interviews and scenes during the intermission. Verdi's Rigoletto is the next performance scheduled, but with a different twist as it will have a setting in Las Vegas.
