Fairmont Tour of Homes

On Sunday we bought tickets for the Fairmont Tour of Homes organized by Historic Fairmont. Fairmont, now bordered by Magnolia, Jessamine, 8th Avenue and Hemphill, was developed in the late 1800s and continued growing into a neighborhood of mostly wood-frame bungalows. After WWII the area began to decline and in an effort to clean up Southside Fort Worth, in 1977 the Fairmont Neighborhood Association was formed.
The district received historic designation on the national registry in 1990. As part of the national registry, there are strict guidelines for building or remodelling the homes. Although the home interior can be changed, the outside must remain true to its original design. One of the requirements is that windows must have wooden frames. Even with all the people touring the homes, the streets were quiet and a friendly neighborhood atmosphere was evident. Although the Tour of Homes has ended for another year this is a great area to take a walk and admire the architecture.
