Ice Storm in Fort Worth

Last night an ice storm drifted into Fort Worth with a vengeance and by early evening sleet was clinking against the windows. Citizens in the northern states are probably wondering what all the fuss is about. Temperatures barely below 32 degrees may seem like a heat wave to them, but here in the mid-west we rarely get such an onslaught of ice. I heard on the news that the last storm of similar iciness was in 1980. This morning the needle dropped further and flickered at 19 degrees.
Battles ensue at this time of year between the warm gulf weather and the northern cold fronts and temperatures vary dramatically.
Texas gets hit sporadically with snow and ice in the winter but it is not a common occurrence and we have few sanding trucks and minimal equipment to keep roadways clear, especially the high overpasses which freeze readily.
The storm left behind white roadways and icicles and headed east. By the week-end the winter coats and boots will find their way into the back of the closet and that needle will be flickering at a warm 65.
